Title: Amusing new proofs of two classical theorems about class numbers


Abstract: I will describe elementary proofs of the Gauss-Hermite theorem 
(relating class numbers to sums of three squares) and the 
Kronecker-Hurwitz formula (evaluating certain sums of class numbers). No 
knowledge of number theory is presupposed.
