The Future and Emerging Technologies Flagships: the Voyage Continues
In a blog post, Thierry Van der Pyl, Director "Excellence in Science" at 
the European Commission, highlights significant milestones passed by 
both FET Flagship projects. The Human Brain Project (HBP) released the 
first version of its six ICT Platforms. The Graphene Flagship started a 
new operational phase under Horizon 2020. At a kick-off seminar 
organised by the FLAG-ERA consortium in Budapest, 6 Partnering Projects 
for HBP and 13 for the Graphene Flagship were presented.

FET Open continues to foster early-stage research for radically new 
technological possibilities. It supports promising novel ideas from all 
technological areas without prescribing any theme. Funding is available

Graphene Flagship enters operational phase
The ramp up phase of the Graphene Flagship resulted in many successes in 
several areas of research and related applications. A new chapter in the 
voyage of the project started on 1st of April. This large scale, 
international research collaboration is moving forward to the core of 
its mission: to help graphene and related materials transfer from the 
laboratory and into society.

Reporting on Human Brain Project Platform Release
End of March, the Human Brain Project (HBP) release event presented the 
first components, services and tools of 6 ICT Platforms to the 
scientific community. These HBP Platforms are designed to help

FET Open ABACUS project: towards the first biological supercomputer
ABACUS researchers are using molecular motors and ATP (adenosine 
triphosphate), the substance that provides energy to all the cells in a 
human body, to power a biocomputer. They have shown that such a parallel 
biocomputer can find all the correct solutions to a combinatorial 
problem, rapidly and energy-efficiently.
