Speaker: Giordano Cotti (SISSA)

Title: Introduction to Analytic D-Modules

Wednesday, March 11, at 14:30
SISSA, room 136

Abstract:
«Theory of D-modules was born in ‘60s and originally developed by the
Kyoto School (M. Sato, T. Kawai, M. Kashiwara) as an algebraic approach
to problems arising in the theory of linear partial differential
equations. The techniques used, inspired by Grothendieck’s work in
Algebraic Geometry and extremely different from the framework of
functional analysis, make this theory useful and applicable in many
contexts (to name a few: Hyperfunctions Theory, Microlocal Analysis,
Representation Theory, Hodge Theory).
Being a well-developed theory but not widely used by nonspecialists,
this seminar is intended to be a gentle introduction to the subject.
After giving some basic notions, we will study more deeply the class of
Coherent D-Modules, showing that it is equivalent to the study of
systems of linear PDEs in several complex variables.»

Note: The seminar is also in partial fulfillment of the requirements for
the course on differential equations in the complex domain.
