Dislocations in nanowire heterostructures: from discrete to continuum

Abstract:
We study the continuum limit (in the sense of Gamma convergence) of a 
discrete model for nanowires, coupled with dimensional reduction. Since 
the material is heterogeneous, we allow dislocations at the interface. 
The model with dislocations is compared with the elastic one, showing 
that the formation of dislocations is favoured.
