Lecture Prof. Pietronero @SISSA

I'm very pleased to inform you that we will host*on March 5th*Professor 
Luciano Pietronero, for a lecture called*"A new metric for the economic 
complexity of countries and products"*, as the first of a series of 
events regarding FoodCAST, the new project led by SISSA together with 
ICTP to build new tools to describe the recent dynamics of the 
commodities market and to shed light on possible solutions in planning 
and managing global food resources effectively.
The lecture will take place at SISSA, in the room 134 (1st floor), 
beginning at 4 pm, and will be shortly introduced byRiccardo Sabatini 
who will summarize the challenges and goals of FoodCAST. A refreshment 
will follow.

/Luciano Pietronero is////full professor of Condensed Matter Physics at 
University "La Sapienza" in Rome. He is also Director of the Institute 
of Complex Systems of CNR.
He worked at the Xerox Webster research Center and at the Brown Boveri 
Research, before moving to Groningen in the Department of Physics as 
Professor of Condensed Matter Theory. In 2007 he was chairman of the 
23rd edition of the STATPHYS conference held in Genova, and in 2008 he 
won the Fermi Prize, the top prize of the Italian Physical Society
He is author of about 350 scientific papers, mostly in leading 
international scientific journals like Nature; Phys. Rev. Letters; Rev. 
Mod. Phys.; Physics Reports; Phys. Rev. B ed E; Europhys. Lett.; Physica 
A; J. of Physics etc.

Cari tutti,

vi segnaliamo che lunedì 5 marzo ospiteremo il *prof. Luciano 
Pietronero*, per il seminario *"A new metric for the economic complexity 
of countries and products"*, il primo di una serie di eventi legati a 
FoodCAST, il nuovo progetto condotto da SISSA insieme all'ICTP per 
realizzare nuovi strumenti in grado di descrivere le dinamiche dei 
mercati delle commodities e per fare luce su possibili soluzioni 
efficienti nella pianificazione e nella gestione  delle risorse 
alimentari globali.
Il seminario avrà luogo alla SISSA, in aula 134 (1o piano), con inizio 
alle ore 16, e sarà preceduto da una breve introduzione di Riccardo 
Sabatini, che riassumerà le sfide e gli obiettivi di FoodCAST. Seguirà 
un rinfresco.

Luciano Pietronero è professore ordinario di Condensed Matters presso il 
Dipartimento di Fisica dell'Università "La Sapienza" di Roma, e dirige 
l'Istituto di Sistemi Complessi del CNR.
Ha lavorato per il Xerox Webster Research Center e per il Brown Boveri 
Research Center, e insegnato presso il Dipartimento di Fisica di 
Groningen. Nel 2007 ha presieduto la 23esima edizione della conferenza 
STATPHYS tenutasi a Genova, e nel 2008 ha vinto il Premio Fermi.
