Professor Vladimir Rubtsov, from Université d'Angers, will talk on 

 

The Geometry of Monge-Ampère Equations: from Calabi-Yau to Weather Forecast

 

Abstract: I want to discuss a geometric approach to a famous class of non-linear 2nd order partial differential equations based on symplectic and contact geometries.

 This approach provides very nice and explicit results both for exact and numerical solutions of various Monge-Ampère equations related to differential-geometric, hydro-dynamical and meteorological models.
