SEMINAR ANNOUNCEMENT

Jacopo Stoppa
(Università di Pavia)

will hold a seminar on "Some applications of the tropical vertex group"

Abs: The tropical vertex group of Kontsevich and Soibelman is
generated by formal symplectomorphisms of the 2-dimensional algebraic
torus. It plays a role in many problems in algebraic geometry and
mathematical physics. The group itself can be understood in very
different ways. There are approaches involving the enumeration of
holomorphic curves, respectively the topology of moduli spaces of
representations. This leads to nice correspondences. After explaining
this, I will discuss joint work with M. Reineke and T. Weist in which
we determine the dual of a remarkable formula of Manschot, Pioline and
Sen for quiver representations: it is a degeneration formula in
Gromov-Witten theory. The refined tropical counts of Block and
Goettsche emerge naturally when attempting to "quantize" this picture.
One then gets another interpretation of the MPS formula as the
statement that two "quantizations" are compatible (joint with S. A.
Filippini).

Venue: Tuesday 11 December at 11.00 in lecture room 005
