"A brief overview of the new knowledge on the African monsoon emerging
from the AMMA project"

The AMMA project (African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis) set out
to better understand the geophysical processes which govern the
evolution of the monsoon, and provide the science needed to improve
prediction and decision-support systems. The control exerted by
weather and climate on agronomic production, water resources and
public health was studied to evaluate the potential for populations to
adapt. AMMA made advances which have the potential to improve
forecasts from weather to climate scales. The present talk will review
some of these results and discuss how they can be applied for the
benefit of the African societies. The experience of AMMA in involving
the African research community in such research efforts will also be
presented.

Everyone is most welcome.
