"Functional renormalization group, a novel approach to quantum field theory"

 

Abstract

 

The derivation of an exact equation describing the renormalization group flow of a scale dependent effective action, know as  effective average action, has opened the road to a new approach to quantum field theory. Through different examples ranging from second order phase  transitions to quantum field theory on curved space, we review the  formalism and some techniques developed to solve the exact renormalization group flow equation.
