SISSA COLLOQUIUM
Thursday, 1 July 2010, 16.30 - Lecture Room 5, groundfloor, SISSA -
Santorio Building, Via Bonomea 265
The seminar will be preceded by a get-together at 16.10 in front of
Lecture Room 5 for tea and coffee.
Speaker: Andrea Trombettoni (Elementary Particles Sector, SISSA)
TITLE: Ultracold atoms for quantum devices and quantum simulations
ABSTRACT: The goal of the talk is to present an introduction to the
properties of trapped ultracold atomic gases. I will discuss recent
progresses in their experimental manipulation, focusing in particular on
the perspectives for the implementation of quantum devices and quantum
sensors for high-precision measurements. The final part of the talk will
be devoted to an introduction to the use of ultracold atoms as
simulators for quantum many-body problems.
