"Signatures of the superfluid to Mott insulator transition in cold
bosonic atoms in 1D optical lattice"

Abstract

We study the Bose-Hubbard model using the finite size density matrix
renormalization group method. We obtain a complete phase diagram for
a system in the presence of a harmonic trap and compare it with that
of the homogeneous system.

The superfluid to the Mott insulator phase transition is investigated
using different experimental signatures of these phases in quantities
such as momentum distribution, visibility, condensate fraction and
the total number of bosons at a particular density. The relationships
between the various experimental signatures and the phase diagram are
highlighted.

" Stretched quantum states emerging from Majorana zero modes"

Abstract

Effects associated with the existence of isolated zero modes of
Majorana fermions are discussed. It is argued that the quantization
of this system necessarily contains highly extended (stretched) quantum

states and that, populating or depopulating such states by
interacting with the quantum system, leads to long- ranged
teleportation-like processes. A model consisting of a quantum wire
embedded in a p-wave superconductor is discussed as an explicit - and
exactly solvable- example of a physical system with isolated Majorana
zero modes.
