Dear All,
Thank you for all your efforts in promoting the POGO-SCOR visiting
Fellowship, the deadline for submissions is fast approaching – 15
April – and applications are starting to come in but if you have any
further occasion to remind people of the opportunity please do so.
I would also like to draw your attention to a new opportunity a
Special POGO-SCOR Fellowship for On-board Training on an Atlantic
Meridional Transect (AMT) Cruise organised by Plymouth Marine
Laboratory. Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in a
six-week cruise as well as one-month advance preparation and two-
months post cruise analyses based at Plymouth Marine Laboratory.
This new opportunity will be advertised on the POGO website training

in the next few days and I would ask you to please circulate
information about it through your regular and appropriate channels –
mailing lists, newsletters etc. I will be managing this fellowship
programme that has a closing date of 15 June 2008 and would ask you

Special POGO-SCOR Fellowship for
On-board Training on an Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT) Cruise
The Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO) and its
partner, the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR),
announce a special Fellowship for on-board training on an Atlantic
Meridional Transect (AMT) Cruise. One berth has been reserved on
the next AMT cruise for the selected candidate. The programme is
designed to promote training and capacity building leading towards a
global observation scheme for the oceans.
This fellowship program is open to scientists, technicians, graduate
students (PhD) and Post-doctoral Fellows involved in oceanographic
work at centres in developing countries and countries with economies
in transition.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to visit Plymouth
Marine Laboratory (PML), in the UK, for one month prior to the start
of the cruise to participate in cruise preparation and planning; to
go on the cruise (5 October – 12 November 2008) and help make
hydrological, bio-optical and ecological observations; and after the
cruise to spend two additional months at PML, learning to analyse
the results statistically and interpret them.
Total period of Fellowship: 05 September 2008 – 12 January 2009.
Candidates should be available to participate for the full period.
The fellowship provides airfare and a stipend for living expenses
for up to three months stay in the UK before and after the cruise;
the flight back from the Falklands; accommodation in the Falklands
(on leaving ship); accommodation in UK (to join ship); ship messing
fee; seafaring medical and sea survival course.
Deadline for application is June 15, 2008.
