Abstract
In this talk we will discuss the experimental observations on the
metal-insulator transition (MIT) in the 2D electron gas (2DEG) and the
thermodynamic measurements of the magnetic susceptibility and inverse
compressibility of this system. Next, our model based on density
functional theory will be introduced, in which disorder and
interactions are treated on the same footing without any assumption on
their relative strength. Obtained results on thermodynamic quantities
and their relationship with the MIT will be discussed based on our
ensemble averaged DFT-based calculations on this system.
