SISSA MATH PHYS/GEOM SEMINARS
===============================
Professor Rafal Ablamowicz (Tennessee
Technical University, Cookeville) will give
a talk on
"A few applications of Groebner bases"
on Tuesday, July 18 at 11:00 in Room A
(basement, SISSA Main building).
Abstract: Groebner bases are useful in practical
problems when solving systems of polynomial
equations. Applications of these bases to finding
parallel lines (envelopes) and parallel surfaces
at the given offset will be shown. As examples,
parallel lines to nondegenerate quadrics, Bezier
cubics and Bezier surfaces will be presented.
Singularities of the parallel lines will be
discussed.
