Dear colleagues,
The Earth System Physics section at ICTP invites applications for four postdoctoral fellowships within two project frameworks:
1) Climate attribution and high-resolution regional climate modelling (2 positions)
Part of the HORIZON project CLOSER (Close the LOop: Attributing complex climate disaStERs to climatic and to policy changes). The successful candidates will develop and apply an attribution protocol based on observations, reanalysis and real-time forecast systems, combined with high-resolution regional climate projections.
Requirements:
2) Machine learning for regional climate downscaling (2 positions)
Part of the COPERNICUS C3S project, "Downscaling of CMIP6 Climate Projections using Machine Learning Tools to fill the Gaps of the Worldwide CORDEX RCM Simulations." The successful candidates will implement a machine learning regional climate emulator to complement dynamical downscaling methods for high-resolution climate projections.
Requirements:
Who can apply: Candidates must hold a PhD in Atmospheric Physics and Climate Sciences, Geophysical Science, Data Science or a related discipline before the start of the fellowship, with relevant research experience in the areas above.
Entitlements: ICTP offers internationally competitive remuneration and benefits within a vibrant international research environment with an active programme of workshops and conferences. Fellows are encouraged and supported to participate in activities in developing countries, in line with ICTP's mission.
