Dear RegCNETs,
Good morning. Hope you are doing well. There is something I wanted to share with you. Basically, the ESACCI satellite soil moisture product was intended to be used for the purpose of the seasonal forecast or to address the influence of the soil moisture initialization on the monsoon dynamics. However, it has not been examined in arid regions (e.g., Egypt).
In this study (see attached file), it was found that the ESACCI has a profound influence on solar radiation budget, boundary layer height, sensible heat flux, relative humidity, daily maximum and minimum air temperature. Also, the effect extends for the whole period of the simulation (13 years in this study).
Also, we found that it is necessary for the RegCM4 to be initialized with the ESACCI satellite soil moisture product so a comparison between the BATS and CLM4.5 land surface schemes can be conducted in the arid regions. Please find the attached file for more details. This work has been accepted in the 4th international electronic conference on applied sciences (
https://sciforum.net/paper/view/15353) and it will be published after the conference.
Hope this work can be useful for those work on the RegCM4 in arid regions.
Best Regards
Samy
