I have tried both options.Renaming the .cdf files to .nc. Second, changes the suffix from .nc to .cdf in mod_sst_gnmnc.F90 and recompiled. Still same error for sst.

The filename must have the .nc suffix. If it is not possible to change
the name of the file on filesystem, you can edit source file
mod_sst_gnmnc.F90, modify the suffix there, recompile and run sst
program again.
