Hi Michael!

For each vegetation type the minimum (xlai0) and maximum values (xla) of LAI  are prescribed in mod_bats_param.f90.
In BATS the LAI is varying between its minimum and maximum value. The variation is described with a seasonal function, which is based on temperature.
This seasonal function is set to temperate climate (it is zero when the temperature is =<0, and it reaches its maximum value (=1) at 25 Celsius and remains at its maximum at higher temperatures). LAI is computed in mod_bats_bndry.F90 (~l300), and the seasonal function is set in mod_bats_leaftemp.f90 (fseas).

Cheers,
Csaba

How is leaf area index treated in RegCM4 when run with either BATS or CLM?

My understanding for CLM is that you can either run with prescribed mean seasonal
cycle of LAI, based on MODIS, or run with an interactive LAI if CN is turned on.
Is that right?  If so, how do you turn on CLM-CN?
What about BATS?

Thanks,
Michael
