Hello Vincent.  The MCSs are very difficult to simulate, especially squall lines.  In general you need to be at 20 km or less, using non-hydrostatic conditions and cloud microphysics. The best simulations that I have seen in the literature are at this scale or at finer scales of 5-12 km.  The NCEP reanalysis and ERA40 can provide the overall forcing (such as wind shear or AEW forcing).

Dear all,
I have been trying to use RegCM3 to run West African Mesoscale Convective System. My questions are:

(1) Can RegCM3 simulate West African MCS, if yes, at what resolution and the best input data (ERA40 or NCEP reanalysis).

(2) Which of the RegCM out can MCS be observed,  OLR, or is there cloud top temperature in RegCM3 output.

Please help with these questions,  am new to RegCM3
Vincent
