[RegCNET] How to use the cmip6 option in RegCM5 namelist

As of today, it is apparent that a number of sites in the ESGF which
were offering OpenDAP access through a THREDDS server have discontinued
this method when the CMIP6 data access has been unrestricted through
HTTP protocol. Sending a request directly to DKRZ about the OPENDAP
service, this is what I got back from them:

Hi Graziano,
Short answer: no. After migration to new hard and software we are
running a filserver only.
Thanks,
Katharina

A similar policy is apparently spreading through other servers, like
CEDA. If the OpenDAP protocol is not anymore supported from the data
providers, the only option is unfortunately to physically download the
data on disk. Because ICTP does not have enough storage space to act as
a mirror for CMIP6 data, RegCM users need to download their own data
directly from ESGF servers.
Because the HTTP download is now unrestricted, a simple wget script or
python using urllib works, without the need of using the complex script
taking care of authentication, checksumming, etc. that can be had from
the ESGF search interfaces.

I have made an example script for downloading MPI-ESM2-MR data here:

http://clima-dods.ictp.it/regcm4/cmip6/mpi_download.sh

It was nice until it was working, but probably the resource cost was
high on the data provider side....
