The Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences at Iowa State
University is seeking a PhD student to begin studies in January 2016.
The student will be a member of a multi-institutional team sponsored by
the U.S. Department of Energy to compare different methods for modeling
climate variability and change along with their impacts on the
energy-water-land nexus. Responsibilities of this position include
regional climate modeling over the continental United States using the
International Centre for Theoretical Physics Regional Climate Model
(RegCM) with either global climate model or reanalysis output as input
data. The student also will develop and apply performance metrics to
output from the climate models in order to develop a deeper
understanding of model behavior, skill and uncertainty.

The position requires programming experience in Fortran or C along with
strong English oral and written communication skills. Experience with
atmospheric models and Unix (Linux) computing environments is
preferred. Contact Prof. William Gutowski (gutowski at iastate.edu) if
