Position Summary:
Berkeley Lab’s *Climate & Ecosystems Division*
<http://eesa.lbl.gov/our-divisions/climate-ecosystem-sciences/> (CESD) has
an opening for a Hydroclimate Uncertainty Postdoctoral Fellow. You will be
apart of a new project called Hyperion to evaluate the scientific
credibility and decision-relevance of new and existing approaches for
generating regional climatic and hydrologic information for U.S.
stakeholders. Hyperion is designed around two major objectives.  First,
Hyperion will seek to improve the fidelity of long-range hydrological
projections under climate change for the continental U.S.  Second, Hyperion
will work directly with water agencies and other stakeholders to score
these projections in terms of their real-world utility for resource
management.

What You Will Do:

   - Conduct simulations of regional hydroclimate dynamics across a range
   of scales and domains.
   - Use state-of-the-science atmospheric models that operate at the native
   scales of weather and regional climate phenomena.
   - Evaluate model performance using a variety of observations and
   analytical approaches.
   - Develop an uncertainty quantification framework for linking
   process-level insights regarding model fidelity to decision-relevant
   outcomes.
   - Author technical reports and peer-reviewed journal articles.
   - Produce and deliver presentations of scientific results.
   - Work collaboratively in a large multidisciplinary research team.

What Is Required:

   - Recent Ph.D. in Earth sciences, atmospheric science, physics, applied
   mathematics, data science or a closely related field.
   - Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive analyses making use of
   different subsets of simulations, evaluation datasets, and advanced
   analysis techniques.
   - Demonstrated proficiency with one or more programming languages
   (especially Python and/or Fortran).
   - Advanced statistical and/or machine learning techniques for assessing
   model fidelity, characterizing uncertainties, and identifying relationships
   in large datasets.
   - Experience in atmospheric modeling, data sciences, uncertainty
   quantification and/or the use of in situ and remotely sensed observations
   for model evaluation.
