Dear RegCNETers

I wanted to alert you that we found a bug in the coupling of CLM4.5 to
RegCM4, by which the SAI and LAI were being erroneously passed to the
model. This bug was especially important over forested areas, where it was
reducing evaporation to excessively low values (and thus excessively high
temperatures). Apparently, this bug was present since the first release
after the May 2014 workshop, so probably you do have it if you acquired
the code after then. We thus urge you to download the latest release of
the model (with bug fixed of course) at:

https://gforge.ictp.it/gf/download/frsrelease/214/1372/RegCM-4.4.2.tar.gz

This also also includes a couple of other minor bug fixes (of no
particular relevance). Note that this bug affected the model only if it
used CLM4.5; the use of BATS and CLM3.5 was fine. We also updated the
input files for CLM4.5 (several options are available in the CLM web site
and we now use those used in the NCAR ESM), so please get the input files
from:

http://clima-dods.ictp.it/regcm4/CLM45.

Also, be aware that now we have an option to use the Kain-Fritsch
convection scheme, so we encourage you to test it and let us know how it
works. Finally, we are working on implementing the non-hydrostatic dycore
of the MM5, and will keep you posted on that.

Again, let me remind you that you should always test and validate the
model extensively before any production run, and please let us know if you
see anything suspicious in the model behavior. As with any large model of
about 800000 lines of code, we know that bugs are there, we just do not
know exactly where and when they will manifest themselves !!!

For any technical question, you can as usual contact our code keeper
Graziano Giuliani at ggiulian at ictp.it.

With our best regards, Filippo Giorgi and the RegCM team.
