Hi Monica
If you divide the assa 3D field ( in CHE. outputs) by the aext fields
and you average over the vertical, you theorectically obtain an
effective single scattering albedo representing an 'average aerosol' in
the column.
Despite its confusing name, the assa field is not a 'real' single
scattering albedo but more the ' aerosol layer reflectivity' , and
aext could be a named a 'layer AOD ' ( you sum aext verticallt to get
the total AOD)
Be carefull to the fact that aext8 , assa8 agfu8 and are not properly
interpolated on the pressure grid using the new postproc or sigma2p (
since they are extensive variables depending on the layer thickness).
For AOD and columnar SSA calculation USE ALWAYS THE SIGMA LEVEL output
... We should think about revising these variables for interpolation
on the pressure grid ( i.e outputing an extinction in m-1 rather than
a layer AOD)...
Cheers
Fabien
