[RegCNET] discrepancies with AOD values

Dear RegCM users:
I have been working with experiments regarding dust production a regional
scale in the Sahara. As part of the experiments, I included some extra
dust sources modifying the texture and text01 directly in the DOMAIN.info
file after running terrain.x
When I use the default configuration for texture and landuse I get results
of AOD not greater than 4 or 6 for AOD. On the other hand when I use this
modified domain I got values of over 20 or 30. I'm using the equation
already posted here in the past.
AOD=sum(aext8,z=1,z=18)
I have to mention that it does not happen all the time, it just happen at
some areas.
Does anyone has an idea about what is happening? Is there any dependence
with optical properties that has to be taken into account apart from the
parameters concerning input terrain characteristics?
I will appreciate any replay about this issue.
Cheers
Carolina
