Dear RegCNET colleagues,
We would like to bring your attention to session GC03 entitled "Regional
Climate Modeling" which we are convening as part of the Joint Assembly
(Spring Meeting) of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), 27–30 May
2008 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida USA. We encourage you to present your
results in this session. The AGU Spring Meeting tends not to be so
large and crowded as the Fall Meeting, so it is a good venue if you
prefer a somewhat calmer environment. The web page for the session is
at: http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja08/?content=search&show=detail&sessid=117
Some of you may also be interested to know that the Joint Assembly is
being held in combination with a range of scientific societies from
Central America and South America listed at
http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja08/
Abstracts are due not later than 2359 UTC on 5 March 2008. Please be
aware that AGU is very strict about deadlines and they will NOT accept
late abstracts under any circumstances. You can submit your abstract
using the link from the scientific program at
http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja08/?content=program
There is a possibility of some financial assistance. First, the abstract
submittal fee is waived for contributors from certain countries. See
http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja08/?content=world_bank_countries
Also, there is a possibility for students and young scientists from
certain developing countries to apply for a Berkner Travel Fellowship.
Details of the fellowship are at the following web page:
http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja08/berkner.html
!!**IMPORTANT** The deadline to apply for the travel fellowship is 18
February, which is very soon!!! You can do the submission process by
email or fax so there is no need to mail paper work. Just remember that
AGU is strict about all deadlines.
In order to submit an abstract you or a coauthor must be a member of AGU
or one of the participating societies, or your submission must be
sponsored by an AGU member. If you or a coauthor are not a member of
AGU we can arrange for your submission to be sponsored by one of us
(please give a few days notice).
Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have questions. We look
forward to seeing you in sunny Florida.
Best regards,
Ray Arritt

Session Description
GC03: Regional Climate Modeling
Convener: Ruby Lai-Yung (Ruby)

Description: Dynamical regional climate models (RCMs) have become
widely used for studying climate processes on small scales and for
downscaling global climate model (GCM) results to finer spatial
resolution. We seek presentations for this session which will provide an
overview of the current state of the art in dynamical RCMs and will
summarize outstanding issues in the development and application of RCMs.
Contributions are solicited on topics including but not limited to
regional downscaling of IPCC climate change scenarios; RCM
intercomparison projects; design of RCM simulations in light of the
needs of climate impacts studies; effects of resolution and physical
parameterizations on RCM accuracy; and skill of RCMs when applied to
different regions.
