Hi,
Since RegCM works with hydrostatic approximation so it doesn't take into
account the vertical acceleration and hence the vertical velocity. This is
generally true because other then thunderstorms/convection, atmosphere is in
hydrostatic balance.
The non-hydrostatic mode of RegCM3 is not yet developed so vertical velocity
is not used as prognostic variable.
