Hi Ashraf,

One of the many advantages of Ferret is that is does not automatically 
smooth your data (as does the other commonly used package, not named 
NCL).  There are many ways to smooth...  I personally use the SBX 
function (e.g. contour myvar[i=@sbx:3,j=@sbx:3]).  See the ferret 
documentation for details on its usage 
(http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/Documentation/Users_Guide/current/fer_html.htm).  
Also note that there is a ferret email list and archives that you can 
subscribe to
