For Thanksgiving, the *Associazione Italo Americana FVG / American 
Corner Trieste, *in collaboration with the United States Mission to 
Italy and the City of Trieste, offers the event *Folks Giving: Concerto 
di Musica Folk with EKA, her bandura and the EKA Project Band.//*

*The Associazione Italo Americana FVG, *non-profit cultural 
association recognized by the FVG region, was founded in 1961.  The 
mission of the Association is to promote American culture and the 
English language, as well as the reciprocal collaboration between the 
U.S. and Italy through English courses, the American Film Series and 
activities for members.  In 2007,**the***American Corner Trieste 
*obtained American Corner status thanks to the support of the United 
States government.  Today it is part of a network of over 700 American 
Spaces present in more than 140 countries, where at no charge in the 
corner you can find information about the United States, support for 
English language learning and teaching, information about study 
opportunities in the USA and cultural programs with American experts.

**

*THANKSGIVING*

Thanksgiving is the American national holiday for giving thanks for the 
blessings received during the year.  The first Thanksgiving was 
celebrated in 1621 with the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Native Americans 
in Plymouth, Massachusetts.  Prior to the COVID pandemic, the 
Association celebrated the holiday with a traditional menu of turkey, 
side dishes and desserts.  This year we will celebrate with a concert.

*FOLKS GIVING and FOLK MUSIC*

Folks Giving combines the Thanksgiving message with that of Folk Music, 
which preserves the traditions and popular oral history. In the 1960's, 
American Folk Musicians gave a voice to a new generation looking for 
equality and justice.

In the Ukraine, folk music includes both traditional and folkloristic 
music.  For many years, the repertoire of Ukrainian musicians and the 
use of traditional instruments was controlled by the government.  Just 
recently traditional Ukrainian music has gone through a renaissance.

*EKA and EKA PROJECT*

EKA Project proposes *traditional Ukrainian and American folk music. *In 
addition, they perform *international and pop songs.* The *bandura,* the 
main instrument with its 64 chords from the liut family, is played in a 
contemporary context.

*The mission of EKA Project* is to unite people and bring joy and hope 
through music.

*Kateryna Tsar’kova, *known as *EKA,* is a Ukrainian musician from 
Zaporizhzhya. Following her studies at the National University of Kiev, 
she moved to Florence 15 years ago.  She teaches voice, piano and 
bandura.  Eka won the Festival Napoli Culture Classic 2021, was a 
contestant in "The Voice 2016” and has worked with many Italian 
musicians including Zucchero and Andrea Bocelli.

*The musicians in the band* are known internationally: *Simone 
Dellisanti*, bass player, has shared the stage with Paul Gilbert, Billy 
Sheehan and Dennis Chamber. *Alessio Lottero*, guitarist, is the founder 
of a laboratory producing sound tracks for the cinema and Netflix. 
*Itaiata de Sa, *percussionist,**plays with**Negrita, Roy Paci, Aretuska 
and Olodum, and has collaborated with Ricky Martin, Michael Jackson and 
Piero Pelù.

Special guest: the *Trieste Ukulele Club* of the American Corner Trieste.
