To celebrate International Day of the Girl 2021, UNESCO is holding two
online events on 11 and 15 October.
*On 11 October*(1.30pm – 3.30pm CET):Digital Generation. Our Generation:
Learning in the era of COVID-19
<https://events.unesco.org/event?id=555349315&lang=1033>recognizes the
profound transformations that have taken place as many countries turned
towards high-tech solutions to ensure continuity of learning during the
COVID-19 pandemic. The event will discuss what this means for girls, who
due to the gender digital divide are more likely to be missing out on
precious learning opportunities*.*
Organized by UNESCO, in partnership with Plan International and the
French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, this event will include
the release of UNESCO’s global study on the gender dimensions of
COVID-19 school closures, developed within UNESCO’s Global Education
Coalition’s Gender Flagship, with recent evidence collected by the
Population Council, as well as Plan International's 2021 State of the
World’s Girls report focusing on online learning.

*On 15 October*(10am – 11.15am CET) : Celebration of the 2021UNESCO
Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education

the successful conclusion of the Prize’s inaugural cycle (2016- 2020).
In addition to the award ceremony, this event will include the launch of
a new project supported by UNESCO and Peking University and a panel
discussion with Prize laureates from Africa on advancing education,
health, protection and rights for girls during COVID-19 school closures.
