The Cardiology Department of Trieste University Hospital and the Italian
Association of Cardiologists will hold a meeting about OHCA "Out of
Hospital cardiac arrest" at ICTP on 8 October 2011.

On the occasion of this meeting, a special team of cardiologists and
intensive care nurses of the Cardiology Department, internationally
trained as BLSD instructors by the American Heart Association, would
like to organize a course to teach these resuscitation manoeuvres to a
group of scientists present at the Centre.

The course will be arranged on the same day of the meeting, 8 October in
the morning, at the Leonardo Building.

At the end of the course a certificate recognized by the international
community will be released to all the participants.

*Still there are few places available and The ICTP warmly recommends
participation in this almost unique opportunity to undergo a BLSD course
with such a qualified team, totally free of cost.*

Inscription can be done sending a mail to: /chiandot at ictp.it/(Mrs Mara

*BLS *stands**for Basic life support*, D *stands for Defibrillation

**

*Basic life support*(BLS) is the level of medical care which is used for
patients with life-threatening illnesses, or injuries until the patient
can be given full medical care at a hospital. It can be provided by
trained medical personnel, and by laypersons that have received BLS
training. BLS is generally used in the pre-hospital setting, and can be
provided without medical equipment.

*Defibrillation*. It consists of delivering a therapeutic dose of
electrical energy to the affected heart with a device called a
defibrillator.
