*_Health advisory issued by the UNESCO Medical Service_*
*30 April 2009*
In view of current developments in the human-to-human influenza epidemic
(caused by the A(H1N1) influenza virus):
1. Apply the following basic rules of hygiene:
· cover your mouth when coughing;
· cover your nose whenever you sneeze;
· only use single-use paper tissues when blowing your nose and
expectorating, and throw them into the bin immediately
· wash hands frequently with liquid soap and water, especially
after blowing your nose.
2. If you experience fever, widespread pain, coughing or runny
nose _on return from an outbreak zone_, stay at home and call a doctor.
3. Comply with all specific health safety measures recommended by
the authorities in your country of residence.
4. Seek advice from the Medical Service if you are leaving on
mission to Mexico (approved essential mission travel) or other epidemic
areas.
5. Buy a thermometer (if you do not already have one at home).
Keep a supply of two boxes of paracetamol (medication available
over-the-counter in pharmacies) at home.
N.B. Further health advisories will be issued as the epidemic and
requirements develop.
