   This is to inform the ICTP community about the Welcome Office's new 
website  http://www.welcomeoffice.trieste.it/home.aspx where a good 
collection of useful information easily can be found  on various aspects 
of working, studying and living in Trieste (formalities, documents, 
accommodation, transports, health, free time etc). A link has been 
inserted to this on ICTP's website, under the 'visiting ICTP' part.
The recently opened Welcome Office (via dei Capitelli 960A), hosted by 
Erdisu, was created following a working group set up under the 
Collaboration Protocol between the Comune of Trieste and the scientific 
institutions, and is to serve and facilitate the arrival and stay of 
researchers and students coming from abroad.

ICTP took part in the working group, contributing with its know-how and 
advice based on our experience in this field.

It should be kept in mind that visitors to the international 
organizations (ICTP, TWAS, ICS, ICGEB), following from the respective 
seat agreements with Italy, are subject to some different conditions and 
formalities compared to those applicable to the students and researchers 
coming to the Italian organizations.  The Welcome Office is primarily 
created to serve the latter category and ICTP is not foreseeing to make 
organized use of the Welcome Office for its visitors. This said, our 
visitors are indeed welcome to contact the Welcome Office.

The website of the Welcome Office contains, as said, a lot of useful, 
updated links and information also on ongoing activities. You are all 
invited to make regular use of it.
