ICTP vs LBM, Monday 30 January
The first game of the new season and the ICTP were ready to go. Or were
they?
Some teams hit the ground running at the start of a new season, while
others take a few games to get up to full speed.
Unfortunately, LBM belong to the first category and ICTP to the second.
After a bright opening couple of minutes, during which a shot from
Gabriele Pesco (Maintenance) shaved the wrong side of the LBM post,
ICTP fell behind. Two more goals followed and, although ICTP maintained
good possession at times, their shooting let them down again and again.
A long distance strike provided the fourth goal for LBM just before
half time.
In the second half, ICTP blooded two new players. Brazilian Luiz Hayne
(TWAS) looked solid on the left side of defence and Italian Daneile
Mengotti (Galileo reception) provided useful balance on the right.
But still the goals would not come for ICTP. With little to fear at the
back, LBM kept surging forward. By the end of the match it was 8-0 to
LBM.
A disappointing start to the season for ICTP and two serious questions
must be asked of the team.
First: Why is it that football-playing physicists and those that work
in physics institutions don’t seem to be able to shoot?
Second: If a fan were to shout from the terraces (as they do in England
when strikers don't look like hitting the back of the net) "You
couldn't score in a brothel", would the ICTP team have the right
riposte?
Maybe next week's game against EURAND will provide the answer.
