Update on the Library renovation

The library layout is finalized after the second consultation in December 2025.

Works to remove asbestos are in the final phase, following a successful inspection visit by the authorities last week.

Removal of the demolition debris will start soon. Additional steps have been taken to contain the dust. Alternative shared work-spaces are available in the Galileo Guesthouse.

Procurement has issued tenders for the initial works (e.g. new floor, dividing walls, bookshelves) and evaluations of the offers are ongoing.

Update on the renovation works at the Leonardo Building:

We have begun planning and procurement for an additional renovation project concerning the offices in the corridor connecting the LB bar with the new entry of the library ('Math corridor'). This is ongoing and will require the offices to be vacated. There will be direct communication with the involved sections, offices and other stakeholders that will start soon. The intention is to start these renovation works of the offices at the end of the summer 2026.

Procurement received offers for the renovation of the sea-side windows and submission for clearance by the UNESCO Contract Committee is ongoing.

Update on the renovation works at the Enrico Fermi Building:

The installation of the new heating unit in the Enrico Fermi Building is ongoing.
