We are pleased to invite you to an outreach event entitled "Nuclear Power: Meeting the Challenge", which will take place at the Miramare Castle, Sala del Trono on Monday 25 November at 17.30 hrs.

Charles Oppenheimer, grandson of physicist Robert J. Oppenheimer, will take part in a panel discussion alongside Aleshia Duncan, Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Cooperation in the Office of Nuclear Energy, US Department of Energy ; Stefano Monti, president of the Italian Nuclear Association and the European Nuclear Society; and Meritxell Martell, executive director of the Group of European Municipalities with Nuclear Facilities. The panel will showcase the role of nuclear power in meeting climate goals and achieving energy security and sustainable development. Panellists will discuss challenges and opportunities in driving the world’s ambition for increased use of nuclear energy declared at COP28 as well as 2024 Nuclear Energy Summit, with a focus on the social license. The panel will highlight the importance of transparent and open engagement with various stakeholder groups as crucial enabling factor for the deployment of low carbon nuclear technology.

The event is part of the ICTP-IAEA Nuclear Stakeholder Engagement School, taking place from 25 to 29 November 2024 at the Adriatico Guesthouse and it is organised in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and with the Miramare Castle and Park.

The event will be attended by the participants to the school, but 20 seats have been reserved for anyone at ICTP who is interested in attending. Tickets will be given out on a first come first served basis. Contact pio@ictp.it by Monday 25 November at 9AM to reserve your seat.
