On
August 12th, 2024, the ICTP Scientific Fablab celebrates 10
years of its life.
It
was officially inaugurated on August 12th, 2014, by the
previous ICTP director, Professor Fernando Quevedo, with
the presence of many guests and authorities, just a few months
after the first edition of the Trieste Mini Maker Faire.
Ten years ago seems a really long time ago, and it is: many
things have happened at ICTP over these years, and recently the
institution embraced the mission of nurturing all technological
applications of science by creating the new Science, Technology
and Innovation Unit (STI), of which the fablab is now part.
During
this decade, the
fablab has grown in size, in the number of available machines,
and also -most important of all- in the number of people who
make it alive: our talented staff members and our ingenious users
(both ICTP scientists and visitors, and also the members of
the local makers’ community –thanks to a generous yearly
contribution from the Comune of Trieste). They all make new
and innovative things by mixing science, technology and
creativity together, aiming to make the world a better place.
We
would like to extend to all members of the ICTP
community our sincere thanks for having been at
our side along these first 10 years of innovation
and creativity,
The
SciFabLab team
