We would like to remind you that MHPC DAY 2024 will be held on Friday, March 1, an occasion to celebrate the first 10 years of the Master in High Performance Computing.
After institutional greetings from the Directors of SISSA and ICTP and Dr. Ketty Segatti representing the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the afternoon will be dedicated to MHPC success stories, both from students and partners.
The lectio magistralis to be given by Prof. Dr. Thomas C. Schulthess, director of the Swiss Center for Scientific Computing and professor at ETH Zürich, is entitled: 'Alps: A research infrastructure for science with extreme-scale data and computing needs'. In his presentation, Schulthess will explore how the 'Alps' infrastructure achieves this remarkable blend of performance and flexibility, showcasing its role in advancing computational science. He will also discuss the emerging opportunities presented to computational science by AI-designed processors.
The
event will conclude with a discussion panel titled
'Training next generations of HPC experts' and an
aperitif to celebrate.

The moderator of the event is Gianluca Dotti, science journalist.
The event - in English - will be held on Friday, March 1, starting at 2:30 p.m. in the Leonardo Building lecture hall of the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, and finishing at 5 p.m.

Dopo i saluti istituzionali da parte dei Direttori di SISSA e ICTP e dalla dott.ssa Ketty Segatti in rappresentanza della Regione FVG, il pomeriggio sarà dedicato alle storie di successo di MHPC, sia degli studenti che dei partner.
La lectio magistralis che terrà il Prof. Dr. Thomas C. Schulthess, direttore del Centro Svizzero di Calcolo Scientifico e professore presso ETH Zürich, si intitola: "Alps: A research infrastructure for science with extreme-scale data and computing needs". Nella sua presentazione, Schulthess esplorerà il modo in cui l'infrastruttura "Alps" raggiunge questa notevole combinazione di prestazioni e flessibilità, mostrando il suo ruolo nel progresso della scienza computazionale. Parlerà inoltre delle opportunità emergenti offerte alla scienza computazionale dai processori progettati dall'intelligenza artificiale.
L'evento
si concluderà con una tavola rotonda dal titolo
"Training next generations of HPC experts" e un
aperitivo per festeggiare.
