You are most cordially invited to the ICTP Colloquium by Dr. Agnese Bissi, from the ICTP High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (HECAP) Faculty, on "The conformal bootstrap: from boiling water to quantum gravity".
The Colloquium will take place at the ICTP, in the Budinich Lecture Hall, today, Wednesday 15 March at 16:00 hrs CET and will also be livestreamed from the ICTP website.
Biosketch: In addition to her role within ICTP,
Agnese Bissi is Associate Professor of Theoretical Physics
at Uppsala University (Sweden). Following her PhD from the
Niels Bohr Institute within the University of Copenhagen
(Denmark), she was selected for two prestigious Post-Docs:
the first at the Mathematical Institute of the University
of Oxford (UK) and a second one at the Center for the
Fundamental Laws of Nature of the Harvard University
(USA). In the period 2017-2020 she hold the position of
Assistant Professor at the Uppsala University (Sweden).
Her research interests include conformal field theories
and quantum gravity theories with particular interest to
the conformal bootstrap. In the last 10 years, Agnese
Bissi has been invited to present her ground breaking
research more than 200 times, at international conferences
and university seminars in Europe, USA, South America and
Asia.
Abstract: Conformal field theories are ubiquitous
in theoretical physics, and they are used to describe
phenomena from statistical to high-energy physics. In this
talk, Agnese Bissi will present the conformal bootstrap, a
powerful tool to constrain and solve conformal field
theories using consistency conditions and symmetries. She
will discuss recent developments on applying the conformal
bootstrap to a class of conformal field theories that are
dual to quantum gravity theories.
The talk will be followed by a question/answer session and light refreshments will be served in the lobby shortly after. For more information, please see https://indico.ictp.it/event/10297
Looking forward to your participation.
With best regards,
The Office of the Director
The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical
Physics (ICTP)
