To Staff and the ICTP Community

Starting this afternoon, and through Thursday 29 November, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) will be holding its 28th General Meeting on the campus of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics.

TWAS invites the ICTP community to attend symposia and scientific lectures that will be delivered by the Academy's Fellows, prize winners, Young Affiliates and others in the TWAS community.

Among the highlights:

* Symposia on "Breakthroughs in Science of Stem Cells and Gene Editing" and "Data Analytics, Social Media and Sustainability".

* Lectures by winners of the 2017 and 2018 TWAS-Lenovo Science Prize, one of the most prestigious prizes in the world given to scientists from
developing countries.

* The Abdus Salam Medal Lecture. (The Medal winner will be announced this afternoon.)

The Opening Ceremony begins this afternoon at 15.00, and features speeches by science dignitaries – including TWAS President Bai Chunli and ICTP Director Fernando Quevedo, plus the announcement of winners for various TWAS awards.
