Dear Colleagues
it is with great pleasure that we'd like to invite you to the round table that TWAS has organized within the current edition of Trieste Next: NatureTech.

TWAS's round table is titled: "Hacking the climate - Science or science fiction?"

It will take place on 28 September, at 18:00, Salone di Rappresentanza - Regione FVG, Piazza Unita' d'Italia 1. The event is in English.

The round table will address climate control through SOLAR RADIATION MANAGEMENT, a theoretical approach aimed at reducing some of the impacts of climate change by reflecting a small amount of inbound sunlight back out into space. This technology is still in its infancy, and deserves careful evaluation.

TWAS is markedly involved in Solar Radiation Management Governance Initiative (SRMGI), which was launched in 2010 and that is currently coordinated jointly with the Royal Society (UK), the Environmental Defense Fund (USA).

SRMGI is, in addition, a field where Science Diplomacy initiatives are most needed: a field where TWAS - in partnership with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) - has become a leader with a number of important education initiatives (workshops, conferences etc.)

Three experts will animate the round table and explain pros and cons of SRM, focusing on potential consequences of this technology especially for developing countries. To learn more please see: http://www.triestenext.it/tc-events/manipolare-il-clima-scienza-o-fantascienza/

Your presence is most welcome.

Best regards

TWAS PIO Staff
