INVITATION

ICTP will celebrate the three winners of its 2017 Dirac Medal today, Wednesday 14 March 2018, in the Budinich Lecture Hall starting at 14:30 hrs.

ICTP will honour the three recipients of the 2017 Dirac Medal Award  to Charles H. Bennett (IBM Watson Research Centre), David Deutsch (Oxford) and Peter W. Shor (MIT) for their pioneering work in applying the fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics to solving basic problems in computation and communication and therefore bringing together the fields of quantum mechanics, computer science and information theory.

The award ceremony will be preceded by two lectures by Peter Zoller, a professor at the University of Innsbruck working in quantum optics, and Artur Ekert, a professor of quantum physics and cryptography at University of Oxford. More details about the event can be found at http://indico.ictp.it/event/8519/. The programme for the event is attached.

The Ceremony will be livestreamed from the following link: http://video.ictp.it/livestream

Following the ceremony, a Public Roundtable Event, "Quantum Technologies: Dawn of a New Industrial Revolution", will be held at 18:30 at the Savoia Excelsior Palace, Trieste.
The event will feature panellists representing three key players in quantum technology:
Hartmut Neven, Google's Director of Engineering,
Alessandro Curioni, IBM Fellow, Vice President of IBM Europe and Director of the IBM Research Lab in Zurich,
Tommaso Calarco, Director, Institute for Complex Quantum Systems, University of Ulm and member of the expert group for the European
Commission's Quantum Technology Flagship.

The event is co-sponsored by ICTP and SISSA and moderated by science journalist Simona Regina, the event will offer simultaneous translation. More details are here: https://www.ictp.it/about-ictp/media-centre/news/2018/3/quantum-roundtable.aspx
