Invitation to a special event to mark the 50th
anniversary of physicist's Steven Weinberg paper "A Model
of Leptons"
At 16:30, physicist Steven Weinberg will give a lecture that
will be livestreamed to ICTP and the world to mark the 50th
anniversary of his 1967 paper, “A Model of Leptons”. In his
lecture, which is titled "Reminiscences of the Standard
Model", Weinberg will describe the path that led him to the
electroweak theory of Salam and himself, and what happened
afterwards.
The livestream will be shown in ICTP's Budinich Lecture Hall
in the Leonardo Building. It also will be available online at
ictp.it/livestream (ICTP's YouTube channel), or on ICTP's
Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ictp.page/?ref=ts).
Viewers watching the livestream on ICTP's YouTube channel and
on Facebook will be able to submit questions online; a
selection of those questions will be presented to Professor
Weinberg at the end of his lecture.
Weinberg's paper, in which he presented his work on the
unification of weak and electromagnetic interactions, played a
seminal role in the development of the Standard Model of
particle physics. Together with ICTP founder Abdus Salam and
Sheldon Glashow, Weinberg won the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physics
for contributions to the theory of the unified weak and
electromagnetic interaction between elementary particles.
More details about the event can be found at http://indico.ictp.it/event/8413/.
Light refreshments will be served after the event.
Looking forward to seeing you all
