Strikes forecast

Airport staff at London Heathrow, Gatwick , and Manchester airports have threatened to strike on 23 and 24 December.

Impact and info

The strike will involve members of the Unite union, which employs check-in staff, and baggage and cargo handlers. Unless the walkout is averted, approximately 460 workers are expected to participate.

Travelers should arrive earlier at the airport and allow additional time for processing.

Tap Air Portugal strike

Staff and crew from 12 unions working for Portuguese flagship carrier TAP Portugal announced plans to stage a four-day general strike, from 27 to 30 December, to protest government plans to privatize the airline.

Unless averted, the 27-30 December strike will cause significant flight disruptions across the carrier's network. Dozens of cancellations are likely on each strike day; the airline canceled 70 flights during previous one-day strikes in August and November. The strike could affect as many as 120,000 passengers. Union leaders could call off the work stoppages if negotiations are successful. Travelers should verify their itinerary and/or review their travels.
