Art Exhibitions

 

Inauguration on Sat 14/12  at 18.30 of solo art exhibit by artist Consuelo Rodriguez at LUX Art Gallery in via Rittmeyer 7. On until 7/1/2014, open on Mon-Tues-Thurs-Fri from 17.00-20.00; on Sat: 10.00-13.0/17.00-20.00.

 

International Group Art exhibit "XII Trieste Art Biennial" at the HQ of the Region in Piazza Oberdan. The building is lovely to see and many renowned artists living in Trieste and abroad are exhibiting their works there. Open until 10/1/2014, Mon-Thurs 9.30 - 13.00/ 14.30-17.00 ; on Fri: 9.30-13.00.

 

Inauguration on Tuesday 17/12 at 19.30 of group art show "EXTRA LARGE PAINTING" at EUROCAR ITALIA (the Audi car salon) in Via Flavia 27, Trieste. On display: large paintings by Zigaina, Busdon, Rosso, Bigarella, Cervi Kervisher, Chersicola, Palcic, Sila, Gerzel, Qing Yue and other renowned contemporary painters of the Region. A group of young musicians "The Mothership" will compose, on the spot, sound specific music inspired by the environment and will surprise all those present. A video with the exhibit and performances will be circulated in the Audi dealers' salons present in Europe and abroad. Art exhibition "Manlio Malabotta e le arti. De Pisis, Martini, Morandi e i grandi maestri triestini" at the Magazzino delle Idee (close to the railway station). Malabotta (1907-1975) was one of the most eminent cultural personalities in Trieste and he collected the works of the famous Italian artists on display.  On until 2/3/2014 Open on Tues & Wed: 10-13; Thurs: 10-17; Fri, Sat & Sun: 10-13/15-19.  For info ;tel. 040 3798 500

Book Presentation at Revoltella Museum

Tonite at 17.30 at the Revoltella Museum (close to Piazza Venezia downtown), presentation by Prof. Dieter Kurth of the University of Hamburg of a catalogue on the Egyptian collection displayed at the History and Art Museum in Trieste. The catalogue illustrates the numerous ancient Egyptian findings that are visible in the museum located in the Orto Lapidario in piazza della Cattedrale 1 (San Giusto).

 

VIDEONOTTE, an international videoart event

This event will be inaugurated on Friday 13/12 at 20.00 hrs in 8 locations downtown. Each place will show videos until midnight. The locations are: Doubleroom in via Canova 9; MetroKubo in via dei Capitelli 6563b; Scuola del Vedere in via Rittmeyer 18; Spazio LUISI art&space in via San Nicolo' 4; Caffe' San Marco in via Battisti 18; Spazio5 in via Giulia 5; Studio Tommaseo in via del Monte 2 and ZimmerFrei in via Torrebianca 10. Science Cafe' at Cafe' Tommaseo

Tonite at 18.00 Piero Giulianini, Chiara Manfrin and Marco Mucciarelli will talk about "Aliens amongst us: Louisiana's red prawns" and "Natural, and imaginary earthquake". Cafe' Tommaseo, one of Trieste' s most popular historic cafe's, is close to Piazza Unita', in riva Tre November 5. Everybody is welcome to join.

 

Christmas Street Market downtown

In Piazza Sant'Antonio until 24/12, there are many stalls with products from several foreign countries.

 

Rock with the Roaring Sixties Band at Teatro Miela at Cafe' Tommaseo

On Sat 14/12 the band will play at 21.00 at Teatro Miela (close to the railway station). They are playing for charity purposes.  Tickets cost euro 8/head. For more info: www.triesteisrock.it.

 

Latin American dancing at the Paradiso

Every Friday night from 22.00, fans of Latin American and Caribbean music will be able to practice and enjoy the evening at Dancing "Paradiso" in via De Franceschi, 3.

 

TOURING THIS AREA

Guided tour of Trieste every day at 10.30 a.m.: A 2 hours guided walking tour through the main sites and monuments of Trieste. The tour is in Italian and English and costs euro 7/pers. The Revoltella Modern Art Museum is located downtown; it was founded in Trieste in 1872 by Baron Pasquale Revoltella who left his house to the city (located in Piazza Venezia) after he passed away. It still displays all the art works, furniture and books of his time. The main building was built in 1858, designed by Friedrich Hitzig and later on, in 1907 the City acquired the Brunner Building located nearby in order to expand the original collection. This building has been completely utilized only since 1963, following its restructuring of Carlo Scarpa. Its entrance is from Via Diaz 27. It has a remarkable collection of modern art (1860 to 1970), baroque art and 1700s and 1800s furniture, located in a superb environment. Not to be missed! Open from 10:00 - 19:00, closed on Tuesdays. Visit the Oriental Art Museum in Palazzetto Leo in via San Sebastiano, 1 (near Piazza Unita') there are many oriental items, paintings, furniture, porcelains that have been collected by our seafaring ancestors here in Trieste.  It is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 9.00 - 13.00.  For more info see: www.muuseoarteorientaletrieste.it. The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in the world, situated in the Karst half an hour from the city centre. An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:  Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15 persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at Borgo Grotta, Sgonico – proceed by foot for 5 minutes – follow road sign for Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels. OUTSIDE TRIESTE FOR CHRISTMAS

 

NATIVITY SCENES in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region

At Grado there will be over 200 nativity scenes and there will be stalls and shops open.

At Sutrio, the village of the wood artisans, admire their cribs and Xmas decorations.

At Corgnolo there will be one of the largest nativity scenes of the whole of Europe (covering 15.00 sq.metres).

At Santa Margherita del Gruagno and at Brazzacco di Moruzzo, there will be live people representing the nativity scene.
