Inauguration on Sat 30/11 at 17.30 of solo exhibit by renowned Triestine artist Franca Batich at LUX Art Gallery in via Rittmeyer 7. Open on Mon-Tues-Thurs-Fri-Sat,  from 17.00-20.00.

Photography exhibit "Kaningpong" by Gianni Plossi at the KNULP Cultural centre and Cafeteria (in via Madonna del Mare, 7a, in the old city near Cavana). There are photos on Darjeeling, buhhist monasteries focussing on one specific monastery where youngsters have the chance to live in a better manner. Open until 12/12, 10-23.

 

Photography exhibit at STUDIO TOMMASEO (via del Monte 2/1, close to Corso Italia) by outstanding eclectic Polish artist, writer, photographer, philosopher, poet Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz (1885-1939) with portraits of Arthur Rubenstein and the great Polish anthropologist Bonislaw Malinowski. Christmas Street Markets downtown

 

Traditional French Christmas market stalls are open until 1st Dec. in Piazza Sant'Antonio, Trieste becomes  typical French village. On sale:  French foods, wines and other products.

 

From 1st - 8th Dec, there will be the traditional San Nicolo' market in Viale XX settembre with many stalls selling foods, plants, beverages, toys, clothes, X'mas goodies, etc.

 

BLAM!! An enjoyable Performance at Teatro Rossetti

Jazz at Cafe' San Marco

Tonite at 19.00 Remo Anzovino will present his latest jazz CD in the historical Cafe' San Marco, in via Battisti downtown. Everybody is welcome to join.

City Sight-Seeing tour by bus (like the red London buses), lasts for one hour, departing from downtown at the Stazione Marittima (close to Piazza Unita') but you can board the bus at GRIGNANO. Tickets last for 48 hours and there are 3 tours in the mornings (from 10.00 -12.00) and 3 in the afternoons (from 14.00 -16.00), Ticket costs: Euro 18/head; children Euro 9/head. The Revoltella Modern Art Museum is located downtown; it was founded in Trieste in 1872 by Baron Pasquale Revoltella who left his house to the city (located in Piazza Venezia) after he passed away. It still displays all the art works, furniture and books of his time. The main building was built in 1858, designed by Friedrich Hitzig and later on, in 1907 the City acquired the Brunner Building located nearby in order to expand the original collection. This building has been completely utilized only since 1963, following its restructuring of Carlo Scarpa. Its entrance is from Via Diaz 27. It has a remarkable collection of modern art (1860 to 1970), baroque art and 1700s and 1800s furniture, located in a superb environment. Not to be missed! Open from 10:00 - 19:00, closed on Tuesdays. Risiera di San Sabba is a former rice-husking facility that was built in 1913. After September 8, 1943, the Nazi occupation forces used the premises as prison camp, headquarters where deported prisoners were sorted out to be sent to Germany and Poland, raided goods depot, prison and extermination camp for hostages, partisans, political and Jewish prisoners. On April 4, 1944 a crematory plant was installed and made operative. In 1965, a decree issued by the President of the Republic raised the “Risiera di San Sabba” to the status of National Monument. Free entry. Open daily from 9.00 - 19.00. Take bus 8 from the train station. For more info see :

Visit the Oriental Art Museum in Palazzetto Leo in via San Sebastiano, 1 (near Piazza Unita') there are many oriental items, paintings, furniture, porcelains that have been collected by our seafaring ancestors here in Trieste.  It is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 9.00 - 13.00.  For more info see: www.muuseoarteorientaletrieste.it. The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in the world, situated in the Karst half an hour from the city centre. An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:  Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15 persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at Borgo Grotta, Sgonico – proceed by foot for 5 minutes – follow road sign for Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels.
