Art Exhibitions
Tomorrow at 18.00 violinists will play at the Filoxenia Space (downtown, in via Mazzini 3) while visitors view the "Artists for Emergency" art show organized by Gino Strada's humanitarian association. All the works displayed by 20 artists are on sale in order to contribute towards those in need. On Sat 14/9 at 19.00, last day of the event, there will be a small reception and a short musical session. Free for all.
At the Fittke space in Piazza Piccola 3 (behind Piazza Unita') see the exhibition "Portraits of women". Ongoing until 17/9, 10.00-13.00/17.00-20.00.
At the Salone degli Incanti (former Fisherman's market, after Piazza Unità) exhibit by famous artist Jannis Kounellis with one large installation. The show will be open until 6 January 2014, Mon - Fri 11-13/17-20 and Sat, Sun, hols 10-20. Ticket euro 6/head.
International art and film festival "I mille Occhi" at Teatro Miela
The festival starts tomorrow and will be on until 17/9. There will be many interesting movies and guest stars. Italian and foreign movies, of the present and the past, will be screened at Teatro Miela (close to the central railway station) as from 16.00 tomorrow; during the weekend, from 10.00 onwards (the last movie ends at around 23.00). Museum Revoltella: Take a coffee with Baron Revoltella
On Sat 14/9 and Sun 15/9, join the walking theatrical show in Italian in this beautiful museum where an actor portraying Revoltella will lead you across the halls, dining rooms and bedroom of the former owner Baron Pasquale Revoltella who was born in Venice in 1795. This is a very unusual way of getting acquainted with this man who was born to a butcher and who became a millionaire thanks to his talents and intelligence. Ticket: Euro 12/head. OUTSIDE TRIESTE: FRIULI DOC 2013 event in UDINE
This is the largest food tasting event in the region and it will be held in UDINE from 12 - 15/9/13. There will be over 100 oil, wine, sweets, fish, food stalls spread around the city of Udine. The Castle of Duino is one of the most attractive castles in Europe and is still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso royal family. From its cliff top location it overlooks a small fishing village and is surrounded by extensive gardens. Inside, you can see the furnishings, pictures, books and mementoes collected over centuries, visit its beautiful park and the World War 2 bunker. Visiting time 9:30 - 17:30. The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in the world, situated in
the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city center. An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit lasts one hour. Entrance ticket: Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15 persons: Euro 5/head. Visit the Oriental Art Museum in Palazzetto Leo in via San Sebastiano, 1 (near Piazza Unita') there are many oriental items, paintings, furniture, porcelains that have been collected by our seafaring ancestors here in Trieste. Risiera di San Sabba is a former rice-husking facility that was built in 1913. After September 8, 1943, the Nazi occupation forces used the premises as prison camp, headquarters where deported prisoners were sorted out to be sent to Germany and Poland, raided goods depot, prison and extermination camp for hostages, partisans, political and Jewish prisoners. On April 4, 1944 a crematory plant was installed and made operative. In 1965, a decree issued by the President of the Republic raised the “Risiera di San Sabba” to the status of National Monument. The Science Centre Laboratorio dell'Immaginario at the Adriatico Guesthouse, (Grignano), is an interactive and multimedial museum. It has interesting experiments and videos and more. It hosts exhibitions, events and activities with the aim of spreading scientific and technological culture. There are special programs for children each month.
