Art Exhibitions

 

Today at at 18.00 at the Salone degli Incanti (former Fisherman's market, after Piazza Unità) inauguration of exhibit by famous artist Jannis Kounellis with one large installation. The show will be open until 6 January 2014, Mon - Fri 11-13/17-20 and Sat, Sun, hols 10-20. Ticket euro 6/head.

 

At the historical Caffe' Tommaseo -  the oldest cafe' in Trieste, close to Piazza Unita'- sip a good tea or coffee while looking at the Photography exhibit by Olga Micol with views of Trieste in the past and as it is nowadays. Olga studied photography in Melbourne. Her show is on until Sunday 8/9/2013. Open every day, 8.00 -23.00.

 

Last 2 days at LUX Art Gallery in via Rittmeyer 7/A, Trieste, International Art Exhibit "GRACIS" with 24 international artists from Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria and Germany. Fri-Sat 17.00- 20.00. Free admission.

 

Music, art, food, stalls in Ponterosso

Take a walk around Piazza Ponterosso downtown where the event "Sotto lo stesso cielo" (Under the same sky) will be on until Sunday. There will be music, food tasting, dances, music, shows for kids, souvenirs and alot more.

 

La DIGA (the dyke): A cafe'- restaurant in the middle of the sea, across Piazza Unita'

Why not take a free ride by boat to the "diga" from Molo Audace (in front of Piazza Unita') where you can admire the city from the sea. It is a nice experience and you may enjoy a meal, drinks and even sunbathe there.  Boats depart every half an hour from the pier.

 

Operetta at Caffe' degli Specchi

Tomorrow, Sat. 7/9, at 18.00 at Caffe' degli Specchi (Piazza Unita'), enjoy your drink while listeneing to a concert by piantist Roberto Torzullo and soprano Ilarioa Zanetti with pieces by Offenback, Strauss, Costa, Nenatzky, Stolz  and else.

 

Open Air cinema

Tonite at 21.15 in the Giardino Pubblico (the public gardens), watch "Lincoln" in Italian, produced by Spielberg with D.D. Lewis and Sally Field. Ticket:  euro 5/head.

 

GROZZANA in the karst: Festival of typical karst products

Today until Sunday at Grozzana there is a festival-market keyed to promote all the products of the karst where it will be possible to purchase typical products like honey, olive oil, cheeses and wines. MUGGIA:  JAZZ FESTIVAL

 

On Sat. 7/9 and Sun 8/9, Muggia's main square will be swinging with jazz starting tonite at 21.00 with the Gypsy Quintet Remake. Other musicians playing during the festival are: Emanuele Urso, Hammond B3Barbara Dennerlein, Stefano Franco and the Flampet Horns; there will also be jam sessions and more. The Castle of Duino is one of the most attractive castles in Europe and is still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso royal family. From its cliff top location it overlooks a small fishing village and is surrounded by extensive gardens. Inside, you can see the furnishings, pictures, books and mementoes collected over centuries, visit its beautiful park and the World War 2 bunker.  Visiting time 9:30 - 17:30. Always closed on Tuesdays. Take bus 51 (the airport bus). Ticket price for ICTP visitors: Euro 5. Extra visit of the "Old Castle" and the Dama Bianca rock costs Euro 2. The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in the world, situated in

the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city center. An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:  Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15 persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at Borgo Grotta, Sgonico – proceed by foot for 5 minutes – follow road sign for Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels. Visit the Oriental Art Museum in Palazzetto Leo in via San Sebastiano, 1 (near Piazza Unita') there are many oriental items, paintings, furniture, porcelains that have been collected by our seafaring ancestors here in Trieste.  It is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 9.00 - 13.00.  For more info see: www.muuseoarteorientaletrieste.it. Risiera di San Sabba is a former rice-husking facility that was built in 1913. After September 8, 1943, the Nazi occupation forces used the premises as prison camp, headquarters where deported prisoners were sorted out to be sent to Germany and Poland, raided goods depot, prison and extermination camp for hostages, partisans, political and Jewish prisoners. On April 4, 1944 a crematory plant was installed and made operative. In 1965, a decree issued by the President of the Republic raised the “Risiera di San Sabba” to the status of National Monument. Free entry. Open daily from 9.00 - 19.00. Take bus 8 from the train station. For more info see :

The Science Centre Laboratorio dell'Immaginario at the Adriatico Guesthouse, (Grignano), is an interactive and multimedial museum. It has interesting experiments and videos and more. It hosts exhibitions, events and activities with the aim of spreading scientific and technological culture. There are special programs for children each month. Open January to May and October to December only on Sundays from 12.00 - 20.00.
