Art Exhibitions

 

At Palazzo Costanzi behind Piazza Unita', art show "Pop art in Trieste, Steve Kaufman, the former assistant of Andy Warhol". Open until 21/9; from 10.00-13.00/17.00-20.00. Free admission.

 

At the Municipality's Art gallery in Piazza Unita', solo painting show by Valeria Marchi. Open every day until 18/9 from 10.00-13.00/17.00-20.00. Free admission.

 

At LUX Art Gallery in via Rittmeyer 7/A, Trieste, International Art Exhibit "GRACIS" with 24 international artists from Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria and Germany. Open until 7/9/2013-Open Mon-Tue-Thurs-Fri-Sat 17.00- 20.00. Free admission.

 

At-the Sartorio Museum in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII - Painting exhibition by neoclassic painter Giuseppe Bernardino Bison (1762-1844). Open until 13/10/2013, Mondays to Sundays 10.00 - 18.00. Ticket: 6 Euro/person.

 

Miramare Castle: Guitar recital

On Saturday, 31st August at 20.30 there will be a guitar recital in the Throne room by musician Francesca Milani who will play pieces by Lobos, Mertz, Koshkin, Giuliani, Barrios. At 22.00 there will be a presentation of slides dating back from 1860 until the fifties and guided visits to some rooms. The museum will close at 11 pm.  The concerts will take place, from now on,  the last Saturday of each month until the end of this year. Tickets: Euro 4/head. 

Latin American dancing at Paradiso

Art&Cinema at the Revoltella Museum tonite

Tonite at 20.30 watch 'AI WEIWEI - NEVER SORRY", a documentary on the life of the most famous contemporary Chinese artist by producer Alison Klayman 2012.  See the documentary inside the lovely Revoltella museum in via Diaz 27 (close to Piazza Venezia, downtown). Ticket: Euro 7/each.

 

MUGGIA UNDER THE STARS

Last day on Sat. 31/8 for the "Muggia under the Stars" event in the lovely fishing village of Muggia with food and music starting from 20.30.

Risiera di San Sabba is a former rice-husking facility that was built in 1913. After September 8, 1943, the Nazi occupation forces used the premises as prison camp, headquarters where deported prisoners were sorted out to be sent to Germany and Poland, raided goods depot, prison and extermination camp for hostages, partisans, political and Jewish prisoners. On April 4, 1944 a crematory plant was installed and made operative. In 1965, a decree issued by the President of the Republic raised the “Risiera di San Sabba” to the status of National Monument. Visit the Oriental Art Museum in Palazzetto Leo in via San Sebastiano, 1 (near Piazza Unita') there are many oriental items, paintings, furniture, porcelains that have been collected by our seafaring ancestors here in Trieste.  It is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 9.00 - 13.00.  For more info see: www.muuseoarteorientaletrieste.it. The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in the world, situated in

the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city center. An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:  Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15 persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at Borgo Grotta, Sgonico – proceed by foot for 5 minutes – follow road sign for Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels. The Miramare Castle is right next to the ICTP and is open every day - except on Monday mornings - from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the surrounding park is free (8.00 - 19.00). The Science Centre Laboratorio dell'Immaginario at the Adriatico Guesthouse, (Grignano), is an interactive and multimedial museum. It has interesting experiments and videos and more. It hosts exhibitions, events and activities with the aim of spreading scientific and technological culture. There are special programs for children each month. Open January to May and October to December only on Sundays from 12.00 - 20.00. LaST few days to catch the SUMMER FERRIES from Trieste to neighbouring locations

Ferry boats to Slovenia & Croatia - only until 1st September: hydrofoils departing from  Molo IV (2 min. from the train station) to Pirano, Rovigno and Pula. Take your valid ID card/passport along and buy yr ticket at the Samer & Co. shipping in Molo IV at least 45 mins before departing. Summer ferries (Delfino Verde) to Grado until 1/9/13: Every day departure from Molo Audace in Trieste (close to Piazza Unità) at 08:15, 12.45 and 16:45. Trip lasts one and a half hours.
