IMMAGINARIO SCIENTIFICO SCIENCE CENTRE DOWNTOWN at the SALONE DEGLI INCANTI (located on the sea front after Piazza Unita') with hands-on exhibits, multivisions, scientific labs, conferences, shows, exhibits, and many other interactive experiments.  You will find a close connection between science, music and art and a contest for architects, designers, engineers and creative people under 35 years of age called "Wunder". ART EXHIBITIONS

 

Group Art show "Deja' Vu" at the EContemporary Art Gallery in Via Crispi, 28. Open until 31/8, Thursday-Saturdays, 17-20.

 

At the ONE SAN Gallery in via S. Nicolo', 1, Trieste:  "The poetry of the essential", an exhibit of works by historical Triestine artist Luigi Spacal (1907-2000), sixty works on display until 26/7/2013. Open Tuesdays -Saturdays,  10-13 and 17-20.

 

Art exhibition " Recycle Plastic Art" by  Alberto Schettino in  Sala Veruda space in Piazza Piccola (behind Piazza Unità). Open until 06/08, Mon-Sun 10-13 / 17-20.

 

At the Sartorio Museum in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII - Painting exhibition by neoclassic painter Giuseppe Bernardino Bison (1762-1844). Open until 13/10/2013, Mondays to Sundays 10.00 - 18.00.

 

OPERETTA

Tonite at 21.00 at Cafe' degli Specchi in Piazza Unita' "A Trieste con l'Operetta" (In Trieste with the operetta), operetta show by two popular artists, Marzia Postogna and Ilaria Zanetti. Free admission.

 

OPEN AIR CINEMA at PIAZZA VERDI: Italian movies , free admission

Tonite in Piazza Verdi (next to Piazza Unita') at 21.30  see "La miglior offerta" by producer Tornatore, shot mainly in Trieste. Tomorrow : " Viaggio sola" by producer Tognazzi and actors Accorsi and Buy. On Sunday: "Un giorno devi andare" by producer Diritti. Free admission.

MUGGIA UNDER THE STARS

The lovely fishing village of Muggia has a very lively summer programme with concerts and offers evenings full of music starting from 21.00.

Tonite and tomorrow go to the "I'm Muggia" event  with food and wine tasting stalls and music.

FREE SUMMER YOGA CLASSES

Yoga rendezvous downtown on 30 July and on 6 August from 8.00 - 8.45 at Galleria Tergesteo (close to Piazza Unita';). This initiative is promoted by the Joytinat Yoga Ayurveda Ass., free admittance. Wear white clothes and bring own towel. www.youtinat-trieste.org

GUIDED TOUR OF TRIESTE every day at 10.30 a.m.: A 2 hours guided walking tour through the main sites and monuments of Trieste. The tour is in Italian and English and costs euro 7/pers. Visit the Sartorio Museum, an ancient 18th century Villa downtown that belonged to a rich merchant family. There are beautiful rooms with antique furniture and important art collections, paintings, jewellery, furnitures, silverware as well as 254 drawings by Tiepolo (1696-1770, a famous Venetian artist), Santa Chiara's triptic and more recently, Fittcke's paintings. Ticket euro 5,50.  The Sartorio is situated in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII, n.1, open Tuesday - Sunday 9:00 - 13:00. Take bus 30 from the train station.

 

The Miramare Castle is right next to the ICTP and is open every day - except on Monday mornings - from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the surrounding park is free (8.00 - 19.00). The location, gardens, castle with the lovely decor and furnishings, paintings,rooms full of history are not to be missed. Ticket: Euro 4/head. For more info: www.castello-miramare.it/

 

The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in the world, situated in

the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city center. An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:  Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15 persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at Borgo Grotta, Sgonico – proceed by foot for 5 minutes – follow road sign for Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels. Venice Biennial - Biennale di Venezia, the 55th International Art Exhibition at the Giardini and Arsenale and other spots in Venice. SUMMER FERRIES

Ferry boats to Slovenia & Croatia ongoing until 1st September: hydrofoils departing from  Molo IV (2' from the train station) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Also this Saturday 6/7 to the Slovenian coastal town of Pirano and to the Croatian town of Rovigno. Take your valid ID card/passport along and buy yr ticket at the Samer & Co. shipping in Molo IV at least 45 mins before departing.
